A U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) midshipman assigned to the MV Maersk Kentucky as a Deck Cadet during his Sea Year helped the crew, including two alumni, rescue 11 Pakistani fishermen, who were adrift for ten days at sea, May 29. Midshipmen 2nd Class Joseph Mugno joined Kings Pointers, Chief Mate, Brandt Hager ’00 and Second Mate, Dylan Carrara ’09, sailing the over 290 meter and 60,000 deadweight ton container vessel.

Today, the United States Merchant Marine Academy's (USMMA) Class of 2016 is 100% complete for passing U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) license exams.  All midshipmen that needed retake part of the exams passed on their first attempt.

KINGS POINT, N.Y., June 7, 2016 – Dr. Michael Melcer, a Professor in the Department of Math and Science, took nine Fourth Classmen to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JB MDL), the nation’s only tri-service joint base, in Lakehurst New Jersey on May 25, 2016.

David Moskoff, USMS, represented the United States and its National Coordination Office for Space-Based Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT) at the Royal Institute of Navigation (RIN) 10th Annual Baška Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Conference at Krk Island, Croatia, in May. 

KINGS POINT, N.Y., June 3, 2016- Today, the United States Merchant Marine Academy's (USMMA) newest Merchant Marine Officers rang the bell at Powell Oval after successfully passing U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) license exams.

The USMMA Regimental Band and Color Guard will march, and Superintendent Rear Adm. James A. Helis, USMS, will serve as the parade’s Grand Marshal.
