KINGS POINT, N.Y., April, 24, 2013 - The United States Coast Guard’s National Maritime Center (NMC) has reapproved the U. S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) cadet deck and engine programs effective July 1, 2013 to July 31, 2018.

KINGS POINT, N.Y., April 10, 2013 - The United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) held its annual Shipping-Out Fair for the Class of 2013. The event, which was coordinated by the Department of Professional Development and Career Services, welcomed major maritime unions, vessel owners and operators, and military representatives who met with and interviewed the graduating class. Most of the 25 companies who attended were regular attendees, who return annually acknowledging the extremely positive experiences that they have had with their USMMA Alumni employees.

Edenfield, Head of the Department of Marine Transportation, has received a federal appointment from Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to serve in the Merchant Marine Personnel Advisory Committee (MERPAC).

KINGS POINT, N.Y., March 15, 2013 – Today, Captain Jay Kennedy, commandant of midshipmen at the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), officially recognized the Class of 2016 as Midshipmen.
The United States Merchant Marine Academy welcomed its new Deputy Superintendent during a Town Hall meeting that was held at Ackerman Auditorium today. Rear Admiral Susan L. Dunlap was commissioned into the United States Maritime Service by Deputy Secretary of Transportation John Porcari in the presence of administration, faculty, staff and the Regiment of Midshipmen. Maritime Administrator David Matsuda also attended the commissioning ceremony along with Marlise Streitmatter, chief of staff for the Department of Transportation.
The United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) football team continued its support of their adopted team member, Mighty Mikey, a child battling pediatric brain tumors, at the 2013 Friends of Jaclyn Foundation Snowball.
