Completing an application to the United States Merchant Marine Academy is a lengthy process. Applicants may start the application on May 1st of their junior year of high school, and are encouraged to complete the application as early as possible to receive an early determination.
Applications must be completed by February 1st for appointment consideration.
Vaccination Policy Update:
The United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) requires incoming students to provide proof of vaccination against a variety of diseases. Starting with the Class of 2026, that list of vaccinations will include the COVID-19 vaccination per Academy policy. As a reminder, all incoming students are appointed Midshipmen in the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) and therefore must also comply with the Department of Defense’s separate vaccination policy.
Neither medical nor religious exemption requests will be accepted or processed for vaccination requirements.
