Waterfront

The USMMA Waterfront develops midshipmen into maritime leaders through its expansive training fleet, the Yocum Sailing Center, and numerous recreational programs. Continuing a 75-year tradition of excellence, students gain unparalleled hands-on experience through vessel operations, club teams, and Division I athletics.

Midshipmen from the class of 2029 at the Waterfront during day 11 of Indoctrination on July 14, 2025. The group smiles wearing grey athletic uniforms, caps, and orange life vests pose together while leaning on the blue railing of a vessel. Several of them are making the 'shaka' hand sign, with a large white boat fender hanging prominently in the foreground against a partly cloudy sky.

While the USMMA Waterfront is renowned for its highly competitive Division I athletic programs and exceptional facilities, such as the Yocum Sailing Center, Mallory Pier, and the newly reconstructed Crowninshield Pier, it is also home to a robust and rigorous training curriculum. Hands-on exercises like this prepare Midshipmen for the harsh realities of the maritime industry, helping them fulfill critical STCW certification requirements in swimming and lifesaving to ensure they are fully equipped to safely serve the Nation at sea.
