KINGS POINT, N.Y., September 8, 2017 – Last Friday, the Class of 2021, joined by an audience that included Maritime Administrator and USMMA Alumnus, Rear Admiral Mark H. Buzby, USN (Retired); Rear Admiral James A. Helis,  Superintendent and CAPT Mike Stroud, Commandant of Midshipmen, honored the lost sailors from the USS John S. McCain.

KINGS POINT, N.Y., September 1, 2017 – The American Merchant Marine Museum at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) invites the public to the opening reception of their new exhibit, “Liberty’s War,” on Friday, September 8, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

WASHINGTON –Secretary Elaine L. Chao has sworn in Rear Adm. Mark H. Buzby, USN, Ret. as the Administrator of the Maritime Administration. Prior to his appointment,  Admiral Buzby served as president of the National Defense Transportation Association (NDTA), a global association of transportation and logistics professionals. 

KINGS POINT, N.Y., August, 2 2017 – On Friday, the United States Merchant Marine Academy’s (USMMA) Office of Admissions hosted its Admissions Open House for high school students.  

CDR Mike Bedryk, Director of the Office of Admissions, began by introducing Rear Admiral James A. Helis, USMS, Superintendent, to approximately 350 guests.

KINGS POINT, N.Y., June 27, 2017 - Today, 279 plebe candidates arrived at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) and took their first steps toward a lifetime of leadership and service. After saying goodbye to their family members, the Class of 2021 was weighed, measured, given nametags, berthing assignments – and the opportunity to succeed.

KINGS POINT, N.Y., May 30, 2017 - The United States Merchant Marine Academy's (USMMA) newest Merchant Marine Officers will ring the bell at Powell Oval after passing U.S. Coast Guard license exams, on Friday, June 2nd. This event will begin once results are announced, but does not have a firm start time. Results should be announced close to 3:00 p.m.

KINGS POINT, N.Y., May 11, 2017 – CAPT Mikel “Mike” Stroud, USMS, was installed as Commandant of Midshipmen at the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) during a ceremony on Barney Square this afternoon.
