KINGS POINT, N.Y., June 4, 2019 – Rear Admiral Jack Buono, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) superintendent, announced today that Captain Donald J. Marcus will deliver the Distinguished Alumnus address to the Class of 2019 at the 83rd commencement exercises on Sat., June 15 at 10 a.m., at Kings Point, NY. Captain Marcus is the president of the International Organization of Masters, Mates and Pilots (MM&P), and a 1979 graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

Navarro serves as assistant to President Donald Trump for trade and manufacturing policy.

KINGS POINT, N.Y., May 30, 2019 - The United States Merchant Marine Academy's (USMMA) Class of 2019 will ring the bell at Powell Oval after passing U.S. Coast Guard license exams, on Friday, May 31^st. This event will be streamed on Facebook Live once the results are announced, but does not have a firm start time. Results should be announced around 3:00 p.m.

KINGS POINT, N.Y., May, 28, 2019 – Yesterday, the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) completed a week-long trifecta of events that honor maritime history and the sacrifices of veterans. National Maritime Day, Fleet Week, and Memorial Day which occur within days of each other always make the final days of May very busy at Kings Point.

There will be a memorial service celebrating the life of VADM Joseph Stewart on Monday, May 20, at 12 noon. 

The service will be held in the Mariners Chapel. Uniform is summer whites for uniformed personnel and Midshipmen.

VADM Joseph D. Stewart, age 77, of Ocean View, DE formerly of Great Neck, NY and Severna Park, MD passed away after a five year fight with melanoma on Tuesday, April 30, 2019.

Ninth Superintendent passes away at 76

KINGS POINT, New York, May 3, 2019 – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy lost one of its own this week. Vice Admiral Joseph D. Stewart, USMS, the ninth superintendent of the Academy passed away on Tuesday at the age of 76. Stewart served as the Superintendent at USMMA from 1998 to 2008.
