Sea Year Guide

The USMMA Sea Year Guide serves as a comprehensive textbook and reference manual designed to help midshipmen navigate the professional, academic, and personal expectations of their sea periods. It details the administrative requirements of the Sea Year program, including the creditable sea service days needed for U.S. Coast Guard licensing, and outlines strict guidelines for shipboard operations, professionalism, and daily work routines. The handbook provides critical protocols for personal safety—heavily emphasizing the Academy's zero-tolerance policy for sexual assault and sexual harassment (SASH) alongside emergency reporting procedures—as well as comprehensive instructions for completing mandatory academic Sea Projects and shoreside internships. Furthermore, it equips midshipmen with essential logistical information covering travel and reimbursement procedures, medical policies, technology and laptop usage at sea, and disciplinary regulations to ensure a safe, organized, and productive maritime training experience.
