USMMA Hosts Second Annual Auto Show at Kings Point

KINGS POINT, N.Y., May 26, 2016 – Earlier this month, the United States Merchant Marine Academy’s (USMMA) Regimental Auto Club hosted its Second Annual Auto Show on the Academy grounds. The event, included classic, historic and modified vehicles.   Club Advisor, CAPT Peter Kahl, Professor of Marine Engineering and Shipyard Management, said, “It was a great experience to witness the club members coming together to carry out this car show.  In the end they showed the value of a club activity that brings together students from all classes and majors to accomplish the goal of showing off our academy to the public while enjoying the company of some awesome cars and car owners."

Guests toured the Academy grounds, museum and historic buildings, but the highlight of the day was seeing the cars - including a 1964 ½ Mustang “shorty” two seat factory prototype.

First Class Midshipman, Daniel Giaccio-Williams summarized his experience as a member of the club, “the 2nd USMMA Auto Show provided the regiment of midshipmen with an important event to get behind and take pride in, while also connecting with the community through a common appreciation and love for the cars of yesterday and today. It was a great day to experience the marvels of automotive engineering and demonstrate the appreciation that our club and school have for them.”
