USMMA Volunteers Help Make "Night to Shine" a Success for Over 125 Honorees
KINGS POINT, N.Y., February 23, 2026 — On February 13, 2026, 80 midshipmen, along with faculty and staff from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), joined volunteers at The Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church in Port Washington to take part in Night to Shine, the Tim Tebow Foundation’s global prom night for individuals with special needs. The evening celebrated 125 honorees.
USMMA volunteers welcomed guests, escorted honorees down a red carpet, took photos, danced, and helped crown Prom Kings and Queens, creating an atmosphere of celebration and inclusion. The event offered midshipmen a meaningful opportunity to serve the community and connect with honorees and their families.
First Class Midshipman Kolbe Weinkopf, Midshipman Volunteer Coordinator, said, "Night to Shine 2026 was one of the most meaningful nights of my time at Kings Point. Watching my fellow midshipmen step up to serve with joy and compassion proved that leadership isn’t about rank; it’s about making others feel seen, valued, and celebrated. Nights like this remind me what Kings Point is really about, and I’m proud of how our community shows up for others."
In a note from the Night to Shine Executive Committee, they wrote: “Your dedication, warmth, and boundless energy transformed the night into a truly unforgettable and magical experience for every single honoree. You lit up the room with your kindness, and we are so grateful for your generous spirit.”
