U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Announces Portrait Unveiling Ceremony for RADM Allen B. Worley, USMS (Ret.)

KINGS POINT, NY, June 4, 2024 – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) is proud to announce a portrait unveiling ceremony in honor of Rear Admiral Allen B. Worley, USMS (Ret.), the 10th Superintendent of the Academy, continuing the practice of honoring each Superintendent with a portrait that commemorates their service and leadership. The event is scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 6th, 2024, at 10:45 in the morning.
Rear Admiral Allen Blaine Worley, a 1974 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA) led Texas A & M Maritime Academy before his 2008 appointment to USMMA. He holds a BS in physics from USNA, a MA in business administration and personnel management from Webster University, and a MA in national security and strategic studies from the U.S. Naval War College.
The portrait unveiling will be held on the Quarterdeck of Wiley Hall, USMMA's main administration building. This location bears great historical significance as it is named after Admiral Henry A. Wiley, USN, known as the “Father of the Merchant Marine Cadet Corps” and the commissioner in charge of training for the Maritime Commission during the establishment of the Cadet Corps in 1938.
The ceremony will pay homage to RADM Worley’s dedicated service and his contributions to the Academy. His portrait will join the collection of past Superintendents, each of whom has played a pivotal role in shaping the Academy’s history and ensuring its bright future.
