Frequently Asked Questions
1. If I see a clinician off campus does USN BUMED and USCG need to be notified?
A. Yes. If you see an off-campus clinician and you receive a diagnosis, USN BUMED
and USCG will need to be notified, with your written consent. The MCPD clinical
team will actively assist with applying for waivers with USN BUMED and USCG.
Most students receive waivers for common mental health diagnoses.
2. Where do health records go once I graduate?
A. Medical, Dental and MCPD records are placed in long-term storage through
MARAD/DOT. Access to your records is controlled and restricted. No one can
access your record without your consent, with few exceptions under applicable
law. Contact the Office of Health Services for more information.
3. Is MCPD a safe place where I can share concerns related to sexual assault or sexual
harassment?
A. Yes, MCPD is a safe space for all students to share concerns. MCPD clinicians
are not mandated to share this information with the Academy.
4. What if I have to miss class to be seen?
A. Most times, students can be seen during their free periods so it does not impact
academics. If you have to miss class to be seen, you will receive a Health Services
Pass.
5. Will anyone see me going into MCPD?
A. MCPD is located in Patten Hall upstairs from the Medical Department on the
second deck. Someone may see you entering Patten, they will not know if you are
there for Medical, Dental or MCPD.
Each case is unique and specific to that individual. For questions related to your specific
