JOB SUMMARY:
The Tactical Officer Position is located in the Office of the Commandant and has responsibility for the personal and non-academic professional growth and development of assigned companies of Midshipmen, generally numbering approximately 160 men and women.
As a Tactical Officer, you will assist in the administration of the non- academic student life, regimental and disciplinary environments for the Regiment of Midshipmen in general and the assigned companies of Midshipmen in particular.
This position is ideal for a mid-level professional who has the experience in guiding, mentoring, counseling and instructing college age students in all aspects of an Academic/Military college in order to ensure an environment beneficial to academic achievement and professional development for service in the maritime industry and the United States armed forces.
Highly Desirable Attributes:
- Relevant experience in a regimental setting at a Maritime and/or other military/service Academy.
- Experience at sea including U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, commercial maritime, NOAA, etc.
- Experience working in Higher Education, administering and supervising student programs, student conduct, and other non-academic and co-curricular elements of non-academic student life.
This position is NOT telework eligible due to the requirements that the employee is to be on duty within the confines of the academy overseeing elements of non-academic student life.
The person selected for this position will participate in a rotational Command Duty Officer watch system to ensure proper supervision and authority of an around-the-clock nature.
The position requires working on various shifts including Saturdays, Sundays and holidays as necessary.

DUTIES:
Back to topThe Tactical Officer:
- Serves as a primary point of contact for student guidance and counseling.
- Mentors, instructs, and evaluates small unit (team, squad, and platoon or equivalent) leaders. Develops and implements training plans, monitors and charts Midshipmen's academic and disciplinary performance.
- Monitors all aspects of regimental and student life at the Company level to ensure an environment beneficial to academic achievement and professional development, including military drill and training, Honor Code administration, Company intramurals, Midshipmen Officer Selection, Midshipman performance evaluation, etc.
- Refers Midshipmen to other appropriate Academy counseling resources as necessary.

For the GS-12, to qualify, your experience should include at least one year of experience equal or equivalent to the following:
- Experience providing guidance and leadership to students in the non-academic student-life, regimental and disciplinary environment.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
