Ms. Gist currently serves as the Director, Office for Civil Rights at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY.
Ms. Gist is a native of Walterboro, South Carolina and became a federal employee in 1996. She has served in a variety of positions during this time to include: Equal Employment Opportunity Officer for United States Army Garrison- Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico, Equal Employment Opportunity Specialist, Area Support Group Kuwait; Equal Opportunity Program Manager, 377th Theater Sustainment Command, New Orleans, Louisiana; and as the Equal Opportunity Specialist, 94th Regional Readiness Command, Ayer, Massachusetts.
Ms. Gist is also a member of the United States Army Reserve where she serves as a Medical Service Officer. She was the first Army Reservist to win the Federally Employed Women (FEW) Meritorious Award for her contributions to the Army Reserve Equal Opportunity Program.
Her civilian and military awards include the Superior Civilian Award; Commander Award (3); Army Achievement for Medal for Civilians (2); Global War on Terrorism for Civilians; Army Accommodation Medal; Army Achievement Medal (1OLC), Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (4OLC); National Defense Medal with Bronze Star; Southwest Asia Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars; Global War on Terrorism Service Ribbon and Armed Forces Reserve Medal with "M" device and Silver hourglass; NCO Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 2; Army Service Ribbon, Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Government of Kuwait).
Ms. Gist completed her Bachelors of Art degree in Professional English from South Carolina State University. She has served as an Adjunct Faculty member at the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute (DEOMI).
