USMMA Celebrates Gym Floor Project Completion With Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

KINGS POINT, N.Y., January 13, 2018 – On Saturday, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Superintendent, Rear Admiral James Helis, USMMA Alumni Association and Foundation (AAF) President, Jim Tobin '77 and Director of Physical Education and Athletics, Mo White, along with special guests; Maritime Administrator, Rear Admiral Mark H. Buzby, (USN Ret.)  '79), AAF Chairman of the Board, John Artzen '79 and Paul Buhse of the USMMA Department of Public Works, celebrated the completion of the newly-renovated gym floor at the Liebertz Gymnasium in O'Hara Hall with a special ribbon cutting ceremony.

Kings Pointer Sworn In As Maritime Administrator

WASHINGTON –Secretary Elaine L. Chao has sworn in Rear Adm. Mark H. Buzby, USN, Ret. as the Administrator of the Maritime Administration. Prior to his appointment,  Admiral Buzby served as president of the National Defense Transportation Association (NDTA), a global association of transportation and logistics professionals. 

 “Our maritime industry is facing unprecedented challenges in our increasingly globalized world,” said Secretary Elaine L. Chao. “Administrator Buzby’s extensive naval and maritime background will serve as a tremendous asset to the Maritime Administration.”

Adam La Reau, Class of 2002, Receives Light of Leadership Award

KINGS POINT, NY – March 13, 2014 – On Monday, March 3, 2014, The United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) hosted Adam C. La Reau during the first Lanier Speaker Series & Dinner of 2014.  This most recent dinner was dedicated to the memory of J. Smith Lanier '50, who passed away last December. The Distinguished Speaker Series is funded through an endowment from Mr. and Mrs. J. Smith Lanier. After welcoming remarks by Regimental Commander, MIDN CAPT Connor McGowan, 1/c, and the invocation by Rev. Justin Adour, Rear Admiral James A.
