Dr. Patrick Speelman is a scholar of early modern Europe and teaches HIST 100 History of Sea Power and HIST 410 Modern World History at the Academy. Occasionally, he teaches elective courses on subjects related to warfare and strategy. Dr. Speelman has a monograph and two edited volumes to his credit. His monograph, Henry Lloyd and the Military Enlightenment of Eighteenth-Century Europe(Greenwood Press, 2002), analyzes the amalgamation of Enlightenment philosophy and military thinking during the middle decades of the eighteenth century. His edited volumes include the annotated writings of General Henry Lloyd, War, Society, and Enlightenment: The Works of General Lloyd(Brill, 2005), and the more recently published chapter, "Strategic Illusions and the Iberian War of 1762," in The Seven Years' War: Global Views(Brill, 2012). He also served as that volume's co-editor with Dr. Mark Danley. He is an active member of the Society for Military History and welcomes contact with like-minded individuals.
