The Power Squadron provides vessels for curricular ship handling and vessel familarization courses, as well as extra-curricular sail and power training. The Power Squadron provides support craft and personnel to assist the sailing and crew teams at home regattas as well as provide vessels for Academy public relations and staff cruises, to increase public awareness of the maritime industry and showing the flag. When not required for the above-mentioned functions, Power Squadron vessels are available for training cruises in and around Long Island Sound. Alumni, faculty and staff participate in these cruises as Officer-Advisors. These cruises are instrumental in sharpening the skills of midshipmen in areas of shiphandling, watch standing, seamanship and ship's husbandry. |
