ABOUT GROWLER

Growler started life as the USCG Cutter CATENARY and was part of the "Line" class. (Her sisterships include the LINE, HAWSER, TOWLINE, BIT, WIRE, SWIVEL, and, SHACKLE, all components of towing gear.) Her primary mission was inland water patrol . She was involved with boardings, search and rescue, icebreaking, and fire fighting. She's classed as a 65ft Small Harbor Tug, with specially reinforced bow for icebreaking. She's diesel-powered, with a Caterpillar CAT D375 V-8 main engine, rated at 400hp. She also has two CAT D311 4-cylinder diesel generators. She has an engine room (not just an engine "space"), making her an engineer's dream. She isn't a lightning bolt, and can do a steady ten knots. However, she has a small Avon, BERGY BIT.
