KINGS POINT, N.Y. – Last month the United States Merchant Marine Academy’s (USMMA) newest training vessel, the T/V Kings Pointer, made her maiden voyage from Jacksonville, FL to Ft. Eustis, VA. The vessel was fully crewed by professional mariners plus a group of cadets earning sea days toward their United States Coast Guard (USCG) licenses. These midshipmen are the first “Kings Pointers” to obtain sea days during the vessel’s first dedicated training mission.
On Friday, June 14, 2013, the United States Merchant Marine Academy held the “Class of 2013” Awards Convocation in Ackerman Auditorium. Seventy midshipmen received over 100 awards in recognition of their academic achievements, athletic accomplishments and exemplary service to the Regiment of Midshipmen, the community and the nation.
KINGS POINT, N.Y., April 25, 2013 –On Thursday, Midshipman Haven Hoffman received the U.S. Department of Energy’s Excellence in Energy Award for his independent study entitled “Solar-Hydrogen Home and Feasibility of Photovoltaic Technology in Marine Applications,” which promotes alternative power and energy efficiency. The award was presented by Daniel Howett from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory during the Class of 2013 Marine Engineering Systems Capstone Presentations, before an audience of midshipmen, professors, and industry professionals.
KINGS POINT, N.Y., April, 24, 2013 - The United States Coast Guard’s National Maritime Center (NMC) has reapproved the U. S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) cadet deck and engine programs effective July 1, 2013 to July 31, 2018.
