After waving their goodbyes, Candidates entered the first phase of inprocessing. Candidates make their way to several tables where they coplete paperwork, check medical information, are assigned into companies, and recieve brief instruction on what they will need to know to make it to their next big transition point: the Grinder.
In between the inprocessing and the Grinder are a variety of smaller areas where the Candidates will receive haircuts and portions of their issue. The first issue contains a variety of necessities that need to be fitted, such as Indoc uniforms, PT gear, and shoes. Other items, such as lines and cleaning supplies, are already in the rooms. Many more issues will occur during Indoc as Candidates will eventually need to be fitted for their Midshipman Khakis and leathers.
Once leaving the relative comfort of the Ship's Store, Candidates are guided up the ladder to the "chute" out onto the Grinder and meet their Drill Instructors. DIs then take their Candidates from the Grinder to the respective company's barracks where detailed instruction begins on wearing the uniform.
All Candidates fall out onto the Grinder at noon for the Superintendant's speech and lunch. This speech reminds Candidates of all the support they have had to get this far and also of all the support they are going to need throughout the next four years.
Lunch is a family style affair, with one Candidate from each table being dispatched to the mess hall line to get the food and one Candidate is sent for drinks. Everyone must drink several glasses of water and sports drinks to replenish the essential fluids that they will loose during the day. Each meal is prepared by the mess hall staff to include all essential nutrients that the Candidates will need in this very active endeavor.
After lunch, top priority was getting all the barracks items squared away. Clothing needed to be stowed, toletries placed near the sink, and all items had to be stenciled. After this is accomplished candidates are ushered out to the Grinder where the DIs spent several hours teaching the candidates the basics of marching.
As soon as every candidate had showered and changed they marched over to the Dinning Hall where they enjoyed a welcomed meal. As soon as everyone exited Delano Hall candidates formed back up into their respective companies and retreated to the barracks for time with their Senior DIs.
After their time with the DIs, candidates were given 30 minutes of free time to finish stowing their gear and prepare for the next day. At 2130 taps were played and candidates retired to their racks for the evening.
