Pedro R. Oliveras is currently on detail to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy as the Acting Civil Rights/EEO Manager until the position is permanently filled. Mr. Oliveras is a permanent Federal Aviation Administration (FFA) employee and serves as an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Specialist in the role of EEO Counselor for the FAA EEO Compliant Services located at the William J. Hughes Technical Center in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Mr. Oliveras has over 7 years of experience in the Civil Rights arena. For the FAA, Mr. Oliveras oversees many tasks to include the on the job training of EEO Counselors, advisor for the EEO Complaint Services and Liaison for the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) which led to the EEO Complaint Services ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System Certification on July 15, 2014.
At the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Mr. Oliveras serves as an advisor to the Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent on all matters of discrimination, including harassment and sexual assault; As POC for student, staff or faculty who may want to file a complaint of discrimination, including harassment and sexual assault; Meet with faculty and staff who have questions about civil rights, EEO, or people problems that are not HR related; Provide consultation as required; Monitor faculty and staff interview panels for Academy positions; Attend scheduled meetings; Assist with Civil Rights/EEO training as needed; and Assist with Affirmative recruitment to increase diversity of faculty and staff.
Prior to being hired by the FAA, Mr. Oliveras retired in October 2007 from the United States Army with over 20 years of active honorable military service. While in the Army he supervised three recruiting offices, the Abington Recruiting Station (RS) in Pennsylvania, Camden RS in New Jersey, and Bay Ridge RS in New York. He received in September 2005 an award for being the best supervisor for the New York City district. He was then promoted to the Assistant Manager of the South Brooklyn Area overseeing the training and development of recruiters and supervisors.
Pedro graduated from DeVry University Keller Graduate School of Management in December 2012 with a Master’s Degree in Project Management. Pedro also has a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from Thomas Edison State College and an Associate’s Science Degree in Telecommunication Electronics from Cameron University.
