Marcie Katcher, Director of External Affairs

Marcie Katcher has over 30 years' experience in both the government and the private sectors managing internal and external communications with special expertise in branding and marketing.

Most recently she served as Deputy Director of the Office of Communications at the U.S. Forest Service and was the Public Affairs Officer for NOAA's National Weather Service in the Eastern U.S. She developed NOAA's first video conferencing program with the New York City school system to introduce NOAA's science and mission in a program series called, "Ask a Meteorologist." She was a member of the crisis communications team working regularly with the Department of Environmental Protection, Federal Aviation Administration, Federal Emergency Management Administration and Homeland Security regarding issues of mutual concern.

Katcher has held management positions at IBM, Paramount Pictures, Great American Broadcasting, Princeton eCom and Needham Harper Worldwide, now BBDO in Manhattan.

She has unique expertise in the educational marketplace helping develop the strategic communications and marketing campaign for Annenberg CPB project while at Needham Harper Worldwide. Annenberg CPB Project was created to provide funds to explore new ways to develop opportunities for higher education through telecommunications and the new technologies. The project established a two-year associate degree with the use of television courses that aired over PBS-TV as prime time specials and resulted in over 800 colleges offering the degree. She also worked on communication and marketing projects for Long Island University and Hofstra.

Katcher had lived in Great Neck for eight years and understands the importance and benefit of active community involvement between the academy and the local area.
