Description of Midshipman Fees

All Midshipmen are required to pay for mandatory educational and personal services and supplies not provided by the Federal Government. All students are responsible for the payment of Midshipmen Fees. Failure to pay the required fees by the published due dates may jeopardize enrollment into the entering class, and may result in disciplinary action including suspension and/or disenrollment from the Academy:

A. Activity Fee
This fee includes:

• Athletics - varsity programs and club teams, intramural and wellness programs
• Waterfront - various waterfront activities including sailing, related lectures and seminars
• Publications - "Bearing Book" - academy regimental regulations, "Parents Guidebook" - parents Resources Guide, "Hear This" - the official midshipmen newspaper, "Midships" - the midshipmen year book
• Recreational Events - recreational, cultural, and social events on- and -off campus

B. Services
This fee includes:

• Barber services (male and female)
• Tailor services and access to laundry facilities
  Computer Support Services - computer support services including software updates, user assistance, network utilization services, as well as individual training, group training and self-study software/video tutorial
• Telephone- in-room telephone access for selected upperclassmen and regimental officers. Local as well as long distance calls can only be made with a credit card

C. Supplies
This fee includes:
Plebe Personal Issue - required personal items such as a foot locker, towels, grooming kit, etc, instrument set, Sextant (Deck, Ship’s Officer), AutoDesk AutoCAD 2000 (Engineering)

D. Health Services
This fee includes:
Health Program- supplemental accident insurance program, all required vaccinations, U.S. Coast Guard-mandated blood test, as well as medical laboratory tests

E. License
This fee includes:
U.S. Coast Guard- imposed user fee (Plebe Year only) for Life Boat certificate and Merchant Marine Document (MMD). In subsequent years the cost will vary depending on a Midshipman's Academic major

F. Computer Purchase (Plebe Year only)
This fee includes:
Purchase of a personal notebook computer with access to the Academy Network, all required academic software, four year maintenance agreement, and color printer
