Biography of the Assistant
Superintendent for Administration

Captain John J. Jochmans has served as the Assistant Superintendent for Administration from 1984 to the present. In that capacity, he is responsible for many of the Academy's administrative and business functions, the physical plant and midshipmen support services, including the Health Clinic, Food Services, and the Ships Service stores.

Captain Jochmans additionally served as the Commandant of Midshipmen for three years, Deputy Commandant for six years, and Company Officer for two years.

A 1966 graduate of Kings Point, Captain Jochmans was a cargo underwriter for the Traveler's Indemnity Company and sailed as a deck officer in the U.S. Merchant Marine over a period of five years. He served on active duty with the U.S. Navy from 1960-62 as a medical corpsman with the U.S. Marine Corps.

Captain Jochmans earned a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Adelphi University and holds a Master's Degree in French Literature from Western Michigan University. His awards include the Department of Transportation Bronze Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal.  He has also received a Special Achievement Award from the Department of Commerce for his work at the Academy. Captain Jochmans and his wife, Margaret, reside on campus. They have a daughter, Hilary.
