Dr.
Jane Pacht Brickman serves as Professor of History and Head
of the Department of Humanities at the United States Merchant
Marine Academy in Kings Point. She teaches courses in American
History, Philosophy, and Social and Business Ethics, and
has served on the faculty since 1981.
Until
she became Department Head in 1994, Dr. Brickman served
as the Women's Advisor to female midshipmen at the Academy,
the first federal service academy to admit women. She currently
chairs the Human Relations Committee, which assures an Academy
climate that fosters gender and racial equity and equal
opportunity, and the Superintendent's Committee on Post-Graduate
Fellowships, which has developed a program to assist qualified
midshipmen to compete for post-graduate fellowships.
Dr.
Brickman holds a Ph.D. in History from the City University
of New York. Her scholarship and publications are in the
field of medical history, with a focus on twentieth century
medical reformers. She also has written and spoken on issues
involving the integration of women into predominantly and
traditionally male environments.
Dr.
Brickman is married to John M. Brickman, an attorney with
Ackerman, Levine, Cullen, and Brickman. They have
two children, Liz Brickman Greilsheimer, who teaches social
studies at the Fieldston School in New York City , and Suzanna
Pacht Brickman, who is attending Stanford Law School.
