Chain of Command

The position of Superintendent of the Unted States Merchant Marine Academy is a career appointment within the Executive Branch of the Federal Government.  The Chain of Command from the Superintendent to the President of the United States is outlined below.

As the Commander in Chief of our Armed Forces and head of the Executive Branch of the federal government, President Bush appoints the cabinet secretaries and agency heads that govern the Academy.

Secretary of Transportation
The Honorable Mary E. Peters

Mary E. Peters was nominated by President George W. Bush on September 5, 2006, and confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the 15th Secretary of Transportation on September 30, 2006, after spending more than two decades crafting solutions to our nation's toughest transportation challenges.

 Sean Connaughton

Sean Connaughton was nominated by President Bush to be the Maritime Administrator on June 27, 2006, and was confirmed by the Senate on August 3, 2006..
