Capt.
Brian J. Hall has been named Head of the Department of
Marine Transportation at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA).
Hall, a
1984 USMMA graduate, has been a member of the federal
maritime school’s faculty since 1998. He taught courses in
Terrestrial Navigation, Safety of Life at Sea, Fast Rescue
Boat Operations and Basic and Advanced Fire Fighting.
Hall
holds a merchant marine license as “Master of Steam and
Motor Vessels of Any Gross Tons Upon Oceans.” As Head of the
Marine Transportation Department, Hall serves with the rank
of Captain, U.S. Maritime Service. He also has a commission
as a Captain in the U.S. Navy Reserve. Hall earned a Master
of Science degree from New York Maritime College, Fort
Schuyler in 1997.
After
graduating from the USMMA, Hall served in the U.S. Navy as a
surface warfare officer. In 1989 he joined the Navy’s
Military Sealift Command as a licensed civilian deck
officer, sailing on cargo, tanker and research vessels.
In 1996,
Hall came ashore as Marine Safety Director for the Military
Sealift Command’s Atlantic Region, a position he held until
joining the staff at the USMMA.
Hall
lives in Merrick, NY. He is married and has three children.
