Liquid Cargo Handling Simulator
The current Liquid Cargo Handling Simulator
(LCHS) located at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA)
was developed by the Hydronautics Corporation in the 1980s,
and will be phased out of operation shortly due to the
lack of availability of spare parts and future maintenance
contract support.
The Academy is currently considering
a PC-based LCHS designed to meet U.S. Standards of Training,
Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) training requirements
as a replacement for the Hydronautics simulator. The new
Cargo Handling Simulator will most probably be configured
as a multiple group of computer workstations networked
together. Near-term plans are to implement this configuration
in the Part Task Simulator Lab with an Instructor Station
to allow instructors to monitor individual student performance.
This arrangement would also allow instructor feedback
in real time.
