Nearly one-third of the Academy's staff serves in an administrative and support role. From the Office of Public Safety to the Contracting
Department, members of the non-academic staff are vital in ensuring efficient and effective operations within the Academy and all necessary

Midshipmen Reimbursement Program Nears 100%;
Search for Remaining Eligible Midshipmen Continues to May 31, 2012
Since November 2011, the Maritime Administration (MARAD) has been in the process of locating and reimbursing midshipmen who were found to have overpaid in fees for various Academy services between the academic years of 2003 and 2009. Individuals eligible to receive a reimbursement were notified by the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and to date, 95 percent of eligible midshipmen have been reimbursed.
While MARAD continues to exhaust every effort to contact the graduates and former students remaining to be reimbursed; the agency expects to complete the active outreach phase of the repayment program effort by May 31, 2012. Though active outreach efforts will be winding down, any remaining individuals still eligible for a reimbursement after May 31, 2012 will still be able to receive their reimbursement by the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy midshipman fee reimbursement helpdesk right away via email: MNFeeReimbursement@dot.gov; or call toll free 888-719-9213 (or local 202- 493-0263) Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM — 5:00 PM EST.
