Announcements and Events:
With its full-time program, which
includes frequent educational visits by school and youth
groups, community organizations and senior citizens as well
as by the faculty, staff and midshipmen of the United States
Merchant Marine Academy, the Museum is actively serving the needs of the
Academy, the maritime industry and the public at large.
Continual activity epitomizes the Museum's busy schedule.
The Max and Victoria Dreyfus Room for temporary displays
permits frequent changes in special exhibits to highlight
newly acquired material or emphasizes items that have
been previously collected and stored. Exhibits of work by
both established and up-and-coming marine artists and photographers
are a regular feature. Special events and
announcements are listed as follows:-
- National Maritime Hall of Fame Induction was held
on January
20, 2007 at Melville Hall recognizing Malcolm McLean and the
Ideal X. The next induction ceremony for
the 2007 winners is
scheduled on January 26, 2008 at Melville Hall. Winners
to be announced.

Annual Dinner and Silent Auction
was held on March 28, 2007 at the Union League Club
honoring The Maritime Law Association of the United
States that featured The
Honorable Charles S. Haight, Jr. as keynote
speaker. A Senior U.S.
District Judge for the Southern District of New York,
Judge Haight also received the 2007 Nathaniel Bowditch
Maritime Scholar of the Year Award. Photos

- Annual Merchant Marine Veterans
Reunion at the USMMA Yokum Sailing
Center was held on Saturday, August 4, 2007.
- Every last Wednesday of each month, the Kings
Point Chapter of the American Merchant Marine Veterans
meets on the second deck the Museum at 10:00
a.m.
- The winning ticket holder for the Annual Cruise Raffle is Brian
Ackerman '90. Last year, Brian won a fabulous seven
day cruise for two aboard any Holland America Line ship,
airfare included. The next raffle will feature a
six day transatlantic cruise for two aboard the majestic
QM2 in the luxurious Brittania Deluxe Balcony Cabin.
