Funding

The USMMA GMATS program operates as a “Non-Appropriated Fund Instrumentality”(NAFI) of the United States government. As such, USMMA GMATS is a wholly-owned government entity which is funded without Government support. Revenues to operate USMMA GMATS are generated through tuition, meal, and lodging fees.

Although the USMMA GMATS (NAFI) operates as a separate non-federally funded unit at the US Merchant Marine Academy, the program is designed to support the overall mission of the Academy in its service to maritime America and the nation.
